mission

Nobody enjoys living in dull and grey cities. But have you noticed that toys for kids are often shiny and colorful? I wonder why that is, given that they are likely to live in dull and gray cities as adults. I for one have lived in many such cities. And Dispatchwork satirizes this superimposed seriosity of our cityscapes. Within all that rigidity and stiffness there are plenty of chances for creativity. The focus lays on the hands-on aspects of creation and the possibilities for participation to construct our own reality. A reality where Dispatchwork is just very normal, and nothing out of the box.

Adapting to various sites the patches of Plastic Construction Bricks (PCB) have infiltrated walls of cultural heritage, historic facades, fortifications and yet many more of earth’s walls: Temporarily sealing fissures, completing the material compilation in urban construction and adding color to the urban greyscales. But Dispatchwork does not defy deterioration. The ungluead structures crumble out and ‘dissolve’, friendly to the environment, back into the toyboxes of kids.

And although you may still find me out in the streets of your city adding locations to the map, more importantly, the project now offers participation to anyone anywhere. Thanks to all the people who have already sent me their patches. Without you and your support Dispatchwork wouldn’t exist like this! Thanks for building a global culture together, piece by piece, overcoming national borders in a playful way familiar to all of us.!
